Quake rocks SW Pakistan, at least 80 killed

An earthquake jolted southwestern Pakistan's Quetta city early this
morning, killing at least 80, private TV channel DAWN NEWS reported. The DAWN
NEWS quoted official sources as saying that two quakes occurred this morning.
The first one measuring magnitude 5.0 on Richter scale took place at 4:33 am
(2233 GMT yesterday) and the second one measuring magnitude 6.1 occurred at 5:10
am (2310 GMT yesterday). At least 80 people were killed and 60 others injured
in the earthquake, DAWN NEWS said, adding that 500 houses were damaged. The
Chief Minister of Balochistan province has ordered the concerned departments to
utilize all possible resources to evacuate affectees and provide relief to
them. The Balochistan provincial government has sought help from armed forces
to carry out relief operations. The Pakistan Meteorologic Department (PMD)
recorded at least two minor quakes in Pakistan in October. Tremors caused by
four earthquakes in neighboring countries were also reported in different areas
of Pakistan, according to a report on the website of PMD.
