Ecuador's President Rafael Correa and his Venezuelan counterpart Hugo
Chavez met yesterday in the central Ecuadoran city of Puyo to discuss the
development of bilateral cooperation projects and the world financial
crisis. The leaders discussed food security and energy issues, as well as
Ecuador's access to Venezuela's Simon Bolivar satellite, soon to be launched
into space. Correa and Chavez also signed several bilateral agreements,
including those on energy cooperation, railway links and a gas main
construction. Ecuador and Venezuela have so far signed at least 15 bilateral
agreements, most of them on energy. The two presidents are also expected to
look at measures to reduce the impact of the global financial
crisis.
