Asia-Pacific injury prevention conference to take place in Hanoi

The second Asia-Pacific Conference on Injury Prevention will be held in
Hanoi from Nov. 4-6, according to the local newspaper People Military today,
citing the source from the Department of Preventive Medicine and Environment
under Vietnam Ministry of Health. The conference will offer an opportunity
for participants to exchange experiences in injury prevention and further
cooperation in the field. Traffic safety and injury prevention for children are
two of the issues that will be high on the agenda. 88,000 cases of injury
reported each year, claiming 33,000 lives, said Nguyen Thi Hong Tu, Deputy Head
of the Preventive Medical and Environmental Department. Victims died of
traffic accident, drowning, suicide and accident at work took up 50 percent, 20
percent, ten percent and five percent, respectively, said Tu.
