Thai PM leaves for Laos to pay official visit
3/11/2008 16:29

Thai Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat today left Bangkok from Don Mueang Air Force Base for an official visit to Laos, making his first visit since taking office in September.
Somchai will meet his Lao counterpart Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh for official bilateral talks to discuss cooperation between the two countries, according to the Thai News Agency.
Somchai will make a courtesy call on Lao President Choumaly Sayasone.
He would also preside at a ceremony to hand over the Wat Tai 2 Drainage Pipe project to the Lao government. Thailand provided assistance to Laos for the project's construction.
Somchai cancelled an earlier planned trip to Laos last month after police used tear gas and force to disperse anti-government protesters on Oct. 7, an incident which left two dead and hundreds of people injured.
