Afghan forces, supported by the US- led Coalition forces detained four
suspected insurgents during operations in eastern Afghanistan while the joint
forces have killed one militant and detained two more insurgents in the west,
said a Coalition statement released in Kabul today. "Afghan and Coalition
forces detained four suspected insurgents during operations targeting the
Haqqani and Taliban improvised explosive device (IED) and foreign fighter
networks in Khost and Ghazni provinces of eastern Afghanistan yesterday, "the
statement said. In another operation in Herat province in west, Afghan
National Security Forces (ANSF), assisted by Coalition forces, detained two
insurgents and killed one in Zer-e-koh Valley of Shindand District on Tuesday,
it said. ANSF conducted a raid on the safe house of Taliban Commander Nangali
Khan killing one insurgent and detaining two others for questioning, it
added. "During the search of the compound, ANSF recovered multiple
Taliban-related documents, an AK-47 assault rifle, ammunition and multiple
satchels of opium," it said. "And no ANSF, Coalition forces or civilian
casualties have been reported." Spiraling conflicts and Taliban-linked
insurgency have claimed the lives of around 5,000 people so far this year in
strife-torn Afghanistan while Taliban insurgents have vowed to intensify
assaults against the interests of the Afghan government and international troops
before the coming winter.
