Indonesia has boosted security nationwide amid fears of possible terrorist
attacks following the execution of three Bali bombers yesterday, police said in
Jakarta today. The governments of the United States, the United Kigdom and
Australia have refreshed warning to their citizens from traveling to Indonesia
after the execution of Ali Gufron, Imam Samudra and Amrozi. The securities of
vital objects, facilities linking with Western interest, and senior officials,
including the president, have been strengthened, national police spokesman
Abubakar Nataprawira said. "We are now anticipating the possibility of any
terror strikes, " he said. "We have boosted the security on vital objects and
facilities, and we have asked each provincial police chief to control their
areas." Terror threats had come ahead of the execution of the bombers,
including those at foreign embassies, senior officials and some business
centers, but were not proven. Police said the terrorists had extended their
targets from Western-linked ones to any facilities or officials which have links
with the government. Indonesia had been hit by a series of suicide bombings
from 2000 to 2005, including Bali blasts in 2002 and 2005, Australian embassy
bombing in 2004, and Hotel Marriot blast in 2003, leaving over 250
dead.
