Air strike kills 14 in E. Afghansitan
10/11/2008 17:38

Air raids against suspected Taliban fighters once again claimed the lives of non-combatants in Afghanistan as over a dozen employees of a road construct company were killed in the eastern Khost province, provincial governor Arsallah Jamal said today.
"Fourteen guards of a local road construction firm named Gul Rahim were killed in Yaqubi district yesterday evening as the US- led Coalition forces attacked them from air," Jamal told Xinhua.
US officials were not immediately available for comment.
This is the second such incident committed by the international troops based in Afghansitan over the past two weeks.
The first incident occurred in Shah Walikot district of southern Kandahar province early last week, leaving 37 dead, all civilians including women and children.
President Hamid Karzai in his first reaction to the result of the recently held presidential elections in the United States asked the new leadership to avoid inflicting casualties on civilians in war on terror.
Spiraling conflicts and Taliban-linked insurgency have claimed around 5,000 people with over 1500 civilians so far this year in strife-torn Afghanistan while Taliban insurgents have vowed to intensify assaults against interests of Afghan government and international troops before the coming winter.
