A moderate earthquake with magnitude of 5.8 rocked Maluku province in
eastern Indonesia today, but there was no immediate report of damage or
casualty, Indonesia's meteorology agency said. The quake struck 13:01 Jakarta
time (0601 GMT) with the epicenter at 255 kilometers Southeast Ambon, the
capital of the province, and a depth of 297 kilometers, an official of the
agency said. Indonesia sits at a vulnerable zone so called "the Pacific Ring
of Fire" where two continental plates, stretching from the Western Hemisphere
through Japan and Southeast Asia, meet that cause frequent volcanic
movements.
