A fact finding mission sent by the United Nations Security Council has
arrived in Afghan capital Kabul to assess the situation in the war-battered
country, United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) said in a
statement today. The delegation which was headed by Ambassador Giulio Terzi
of Italy and attended by UN ambassadors and representatives from 14 other
countries would hold meeting with Afghan leaders including President Hamid
Karzai and civil bodies representatives during its stay in the war-torn
country. The mission's talks in Afghanistan, according to the statement,
would focus on security, good governance, human rights, social and economic
development. This tour is taking place in the wake of increasing Taliban-
related insurgency and Afghans' complains that both Afghan government and the
international community have failed to ensure security and alleviate poverty in
the post-Taliban central Asian state.
