Thailand's Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva expressed his
confidence again today that his party could form a coalition government of more
than 260 MPs. The Democrat secretary-general has affirmed that we now have
more than 260 MPs, Abhisit said. But he said it would be up to the caretaker
government whether to dissolve the House or not. Meanwhile, The Puea Thai
party, one of Thailand's newest, set up recently to absorb members of parliament
(MPs) from the court- dissolved former ruling People Power Party ( PPP), will
also petition for an extraordinary parliamentary session to elect a new prime
minister after the Democrat party petitioned earlier. Puea Thai MP for Lop
Buri province Amnuay Klangpha this morning said his party had gathered more than
a third of all MPs, adding that the party had already finished drawing different
political parties and factions together to set up the next
government. According to the MP, the Puea Thai party already had a person who
would be nominated to the premier's post in mind but the name will be revealed
at the parliamentary session.
