8/12/2008 16:23

No fewer than 454 policemen were deployed to another Nigeria's northern city of Zaria yesterday to ensure adequate security during the Sallah celebrations, reported the News Agency of Nigeria today.
Abubakar Dan-Malam, assistant commissioner of police, disclosed this in Zaria, adding that the police command would not take it lightly with anyone found to be threatening peace in the state.
Tension and fear have gripped many northern states over the news of a possible reprisal of last week's Jos riot, in which hundreds of people lost their lives and property worth millions of naira were destroyed.
"We are ready to deal with any group or individual that may want to cause any unrest during the Sallah festival," he warned.
According to him, a team of soldiers, mobile and regular policemen had been deployed to some strategic locations across the state, noting that the police were determined to protect the lives and properties of its citizens.
The police chief warned potential troublemakers to have a change of mind, saying that the command would decisively deal with any person or group that fomented trouble during and after the Sallah celebrations.
