Vietnam, S.Korea to cooperate in maritime pollution control

Vietnam and South Korea will boost cooperation in controlling marine
environment pollution, especially in preventing oil spills, the local newspaper
Vietnam News reported today. The cooperation agreement was signed by Deputy
Head of the Vietnam Sea and Islands General Department Nguyen Van Cu and South
Korea's Director of Maritime Pollution Division Lee Wan Sub in Hanoi
yesterday. Under the agreement, the two sides will share information and
experience in oil spill, oil pollution supervision and cooperate to increase the
capacity of preventive system. Established in March 2008, the Vietnamese
General Department of Sea and Islands under the Ministry of Natural Resources
and Environment is the first state-run agency in charge of sea and islands
management in Vietnam.
