The Mongolian government has decided to send the seventh batch of
peacekeepers to Sierra Leone in January 2009, the government's press office
announced today. More than 200 Mongolian soldiers will guard the security of
Special Court for Sierra Leone (SCSL), the UN-backed war crimes tribunal, said
the office. Mongolia began to dispatch peacekeepers to the West African
country for a six-month term in January 2006. The Asian country has been
actively participating in international peacekeeping operations in recent years,
as a way to improve military ability.
