Nine workers killed, six injured in mine blast in North Russia

At least nine workers were killed and six others injured in a mine
explosion in Russia's Murmansk region, and another three are missing, local
media reported today. The blast occurred late yesterday as workers were
preparing to carry out a controlled explosion at a mine near the city of
Kirovsk. "There was an accidental explosion," a police source was quoted by
RIA Novosti news agency as saying. Rescue workers are searching for the
missing and the cause of the blast is under investigation.
