At least nine workers were killed and six others injured in a mine explosion in Russia's Murmansk region, and another three are missing, local media reported today.
The blast occurred late yesterday as workers were preparing to carry out a controlled explosion at a mine near the city of Kirovsk.
"There was an accidental explosion," a police source was quoted by RIA Novosti news agency as saying.
Rescue workers are searching for the missing and the cause of the blast is under investigation.
