The governments of Angola and Chile have expressed their willingness to
further strengthen cooperation in various fields, particularly in oil and gas
sector, Angola's official news agency ANGOP reported today. Chilean
Ambassador to Angola Claudio Herrera was quoted as saying that Chile wants the
existing trade between the two countries reinforced, particularly in the sector
of oil and gas while increasing investments in Angola. After meeting with
Angolan Foreign Minister Assuncao dos Anjos yesterday, the Chilean ambassador
told reporters that they also discussed the possibility of accords to be signed
in 2009. He said the list of possible accords includes those aimed at the
liberalization of trade of various goods like fish and timber, the development
of agriculture and the possibility of Chilean investors to operate in
Angola. The Chilean diplomat said Chile is interested in investing in the
production of some goods in Angola which have a promising market in other
regions of Africa. According to Claudio Herrera, both Chile and Angola are
faced with the same constraints and challenges and could therefore come together
in seeking solutions to the demands of globalization. " There is need for
Chile and Angola to intensify technical cooperation in various fields to face
the world challenges ahead," he said.
