5.2-magnitude earthquake jolts western Indonesia

A tectonic earthquake measuring 5. 2 on the Richter scale jolted Mentawai
islands in western Indonesia's West Sumatra province this morning, said the
Indonesian Meteorology and Geophysics Office (BMG) quoted by the national Antara
News Agency. The quake occurred at 8:27 local time (0127 GMT) with its
epicenter located at 68 degrees southern latitude and 99.58 degrees eastern
longitude at a depth of 30 km under the sea level, or some 59 km northwest of
Sipora Island in Mentawai district. BMG said that the quake was not potential
to cause tsunami, and so far there was no immediate report of casualty or
material damage.
