A serviceman of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force
(ISAF) was killed yesterday morning in southern Afghanistan, said ISAF in a
statement received in Kabul today. The statement did not give any further
information about the nationality of victim in the light of ISAF policy. "It
is with great sorrow that we announce this brave serviceman 's death as we offer
our sympathies to this serviceman's loved ones, especially during this time of
the year," said Captain Mark Windsor Royal Navy, ISAF Spokesman. Meanwhile,
the British Defense Ministry has announced one British marine has been killed in
an explosion in southern Afghan province of Helmand where over 8,000 British
soldiers have been deployed. Spiraling conflicts and Taliban-linked
insurgency have claimed more than 5,000 people, with 288 foreign troops, so far
this year, despite over 70,000-strong international troops stationed in
strife-torn Afghanistan.
