The Bangladesh government has taken a move to enhance retirement age limit
for the country's public servants by two to three years, leading Bengali Daily
Ittefaq reported today. The country's Ministry of Establishment has sent a
proposal to the chief adviser of the Bangladesh caretaker government for
increasing retirement age of public servants to 59 from existing 57,the
newspaper said. The ministry also proposed the government to increase
retirement age limit for freedom fighters -- those public servants who took part
in the country's war of independence in 1971 -- to 60. Establishment ministry
officials were quoted as saying that the Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed has
already in principle approved the proposal and sent it to a government committee
for further review. The newspaper said the proposal will soon be produced
before the advisory council of the caretaker administration for its nod. The
government move came as a large number of the country's freedom fighters have
long been demanding to increase their retirement age limit from existing
57.
