British celebrity chef Jamie Oliver will cook for U.S. President Barack Obama and other world leaders when they visit London next month for the G20 summit, local media reported Monday.
Oliver and his team of apprentices will cook a meal at No. 10, Downing Street, for Obama and his wife Michelle, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and his wife Sarah and other leaders from the G20 group of nations on the eve of the April 2 summit, reports said.
But caviar and vintage Champagne will be off the menu. He is under strict orders to prepare a feast fit for a recession.
He will choose food and ingredients which can be found on any British High Street for a "simple yet stunning" dinner, Government officials said.
The PM wants Jamie to cook for the world leaders because of his inspirational work hiring jobless young people and transforming them into chefs.
Brown is also keen to showcase the talents of the apprentices ahead of the summit, which will focus on efforts to tackle the recession by creating more jobs, the Mirror reported.
The G20 summit will be held in London on April 2, and leaders from G20 countries and international institutions like UN, IMF, World Bank, European Union, African Union and the Association of Southeast Nations will attend the summit. Chinese President Hu Jintao will attend the meeting.
Brown said on Monday that the main purpose of the G20 summit is to bring world leaders together to coordinate policies in deal with the current global economic crisis.
