Shanghai, Sept 16 - Two U.S lawyers presented a set of rare and historic legal writings, Burn's Justice of the Peace and Parish Officer to the library of East China University of Political Science and Law (ECUPL) in Shanghai, Sept 16, 2014. The books would be helpful for the researchers and students to understand the British legal system at that time and its subsequent influence, said Du Zhichun, Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party Committee of the East China University of Political Science and Law.
2014年9月16日，两位美国律师向上海华东政法大学图书馆赠送一套具有200多年历史的英国法律经典著作：博恩先生的《关于治安法官和教区警官制度的研究》。华东政法大学党委书记杜志淳表示，这套书将有助于了解英国当时的法律制度及其对后来的影响。

获赠的法学经典著作：博恩先生的《关于治安法官和教区警官制度的研究》
Burn's Justice of the Peace and Parish Officer was first published by Richard Burn in 1755. At the time of his death in 1785, this set was the standard authority on the law used by Justices of the Peace and Parish Officers throughout England.
The British Royal Court library would like to receive the books, but the two lawyers insisted on donating it to the university.
此套书由理查德.博恩于1755年首先出版。至其1785年逝世时，其已成为全英格兰地区治安法官和社区教官普遍使用的关于法律的权威典籍。英国皇家法院图书馆曾表示很想得到这套书，但两位律师坚持将书赠予华东政法大学。

The donors Robert B. Yee and Robert E. Stanton, members of the State Bar of California, presented the set of books to ECUPL as their contribution to China's evolving legal studies and profession.
作为加州律师协会会员的余布良先生和罗伯特.斯坦顿先生将这套稀有并有历史意义的法律书籍赠送给华东政法大学，以表达他们对中国正在发展中的法律研究和法律职业做出贡献的意愿。
Robert E. Stanton said at the book donation ceremony that he had owned the set of books as his personal collection for 50 years. He wanted to hand it down to her daughter; however she was an artist and was not interested in law, so he was looking for a new home for the books, which now was the library of ECUPL.
罗伯特.斯坦顿在赠书仪式上介绍说，这部书作为他的个人收藏已有50个年头。他笑称本想把书留给女儿，可女儿是艺术家，对法律不感兴趣，于是希望给这部书找个新家，也就是华东政法大学图书馆。
Robert B. Yee said that the classic works with a history of more than 200 years now still had high value and strong vitality, especially in the field of academic research. He hoped that it would be read by more people instead of being put on the shelf.
余布良先生表示，这套200多年前诞生的经典著作在今天依然有强大的生命力，尤其具有很高的学术研究价值。他希望有更多人来阅读它而不是使其束之高阁。

Du Zhichun, Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party Committee of the East China University of Political Science and Law said that the books would be helpful to understand the British legal system at that time and its subsequent influence, especially for the researchers and students of legal history and criminal law although the British and American case law was different from ours.
华东政法大学党委书记杜志淳表示，这套书将有助于了解英国当时的法律制度及其对后来的影响。英美法系属判例法，虽不同于我国，但对我们有借鉴意义，尤其对华政法律史和刑法学科的学生了解那段历史很有价值。

Lin Yanping, vice president of East China University of Political Science and Law said that the library owned the most law books in East China Area. This set of precious books would fill a gap in the collection on ancient British law writings.
华东政法大学副校长林燕萍介绍说，华东政法大学图书馆是华东地区法律类藏书最多的图书馆。此次余布良先生和罗伯特斯坦顿先生将博恩先生这套珍贵的法律书籍捐赠给华政，弥补了学校在英国古代法律类藏书的空白。
The participants in the presentation included Zhong Xiaoyong, member of the Standing Committee of the Chinese Communist Party Committee and Secretary of the Politics and Law Committee of Changning District, Shanghai and Guan Weiyong, head of Hongkou District Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).
