Tiff Macklem: Toronto is glad to be RMB Center in NA

Shanghai, June 26- Canada’s economic center, Toronto, which is also one of the world’s largest financial centers, is glad to be RMB Center in Northern America, says Tiff Macklem, Dean of Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto.

Lujiazui Forum 2015 is being held in Pudong, Shanghai, and will continue to Saturday, June 27, with “Financial Reform and Opening-up Under the New Normal” as its theme, attracting senior leaders of governments and regulators, global financial leaders and well-known experts and scholars from all over the world coming to talk about global major financial issues.

"I’m glad to hear that the People's Bank will increase the flexibility of the yuan and convertibility of capital items in order to make the yuan can be used more widely," Tiff says that Toronto welcomes the use of the yuan and would like to be the RMB Center in Northern America.

He also reminds China to pay more attention to improving financial risk prevention ability. “China’s economy has already transformed into more innovative and service economy, in which circumstance, it’s quite important to prevent financial risks.”

China will hold the rotating presidency of the G20 Summit 2016 next year, providing a good opportunity to help revive the G20 which is needed for the New Normal after crisis as the yuan plays an increasingly important role in the global monetary and financial system, says Tiff, “This is not going to happen overnight, it is a big project.” (Eastday/Jiang Wenran)
