The city's first slow "green way" in real sense opens recently in Shanghai, where people have leisure time in walking and cycling while listening to birds and viewing flowers and butterflies.

The belt-shaped green way, located close to Humin Road and Mincheng Road covers an area of 295,000 square meters. It is 3.8 kilometers long with the widest range of 110 meters and the narrowest of 12 meters, said jfdaily.com.

A large number of verdant tall trees stand here such as atropurpurea, hibiscus, loquat tree and pomegranate tree which help reduce the noises produced by the passing trains.

1.2-meter-wide footpath and a 2-meter-wide cycle track have been marked out on the ground. "The place was forest belt before, now there's a footway, I can often come here to take exercise", said a citizen living nearby.

The place once sat the shelter forest (built in 2004) of Humin Road and Metro Line 5. Citizens could see but not enter the forest for about 10 years.

From the beginning of this year, the greening department of Minhang District renovated the place to build a forest landscape equipped with chairs and toilets.

People now can take Metro Line 5 and get off the train at Yindu Road Station and Chunshen Road Station to reach the green way.
