Shanghai, Oct. 22- “Innovation & Development: MNCs in Shanghai Summit” was held this afternoon at Knowledge & Innovation Community, Yangpu District. Deputy director of Information Office of Shanghai Municipality Chen Jingxi, vice chairman of the Shanghai Commission of Commerce Gu Jun, committee chairman, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences He Lin, party committee secretary of Yangpu district Zhuge YuJie, Yangpu district mayor Xie Jiangang, party secretary and chairman of the board of Eastday.com, editor-in-chief of Shanghai Daily as well as representatives from 40 MNCs and experts from Centre for Think-tanks Research and Management in Shanghai participated in the summit, sharing their opinions on the path of innovation and development in Shanghai with its characteristics. He Lin unveiled top 12 innovative practice cases and a prize-awarding ceremony was held at the scene.

Deputy director of Information Office of Shanghai Municipality Chen Jingxi gave a opening speech. Chen highly affirmed the important role of this selecting activity in promoting the city’s innovation development and wished a great success of today’s summit.

The summit sees the summary and climax of “Innovation & Development: MNCs in Shanghai Best Practice Award” selecting activity which began on June. Gu Jun, Xie Jiangang, Greater China Region president of Covestro Hu Diwen, Ryan Group chairman Luo Kangrui, and vice president of Greater China Region of Siemens Medical Group Kong Fa were invited to give a keynote speech from the fields of technological innovation, regional development ad local cooperation respectively, further discussing the driving force of MNCs to help the city’s construction of science and innovation center as well as their replicable experience.

The theme of “Innovation & Development” has more important significance under the background of Shanghai’s construction of Science and Innovation Center, Gu Jun shared his opinion on the relationship between MNCs in Shanghai and the city’s innovation development.

Representatives from top 12 innovative practice cases were invited to join in the free discussion session and share the development experience of their own enterprises, exchange views on “localization innovation” and “social responsibility of enterprises”, and provide their suggestions on the city’s construction of science and innovation center.

A total of 40 best innovative practice cases have been selected through online voting under the “Innovation and Development: Multinational companies in Shanghai” campaign as the city taps international expertise in its drive to become an innovation center with global influence.

The winners are chosen among 79 participating cases from multinational companies that have strong innovative presence in Shanghai. A total of more than 5.72 million votes were cast through the online and mobile platforms of the organizers, Eastday.com and Shanghai Daily between August 17 and September 16. The campaign is supported by the Information Office of Shanghai Municipality and the Shanghai Commission of Commerce.

The winning cases cover four areas, including policy, local cooperation, talent and community. A second round of evaluation, which invited a judge panel led by He Lin, an academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences to review all these 40 cases, has selected the top 12 innovative practice cases, which are able to best represent Shanghai’s efforts and advantages in pushing ahead its ambition on innovation.

As one of the organizers of this “Innovation & Development: MNCs in Shanghai” selecting activity and today’s summit, Eastday.com will focus on the city’s construction of science and innovation center, spread MNCs’ innovative ideas and continue to shoulder the media responsibility in the path of Shanghai’s innovation development, said He Jiliang.

By the end of August, 2015, 522 regional headquarters of multinational companies have established in Shanghai, including 36 Asia Pacific headquarters, 306 investment companies and 390 R&D Centers. MNCs have become one of the important forces in the Shanghai science and technology innovation and play a good role in the city’s innovation-driving, transformation & development as well as deepening of reform and opening-up process.
