Shanghai, Anhui, Jiangsu, Zhejiang friends, Hello. I am Hanscom Smith, Consul General of the U.S. Consulate in Shanghai. I began my tenure as CG in September of 2014. Since then, I have had the opportunity to meet a wide range of people, experience some of the grandeur of Chinese culture, and to take in some of East China's natural beauty. What stands out to me most, however, is the warmth and hospitality with which the Chinese people have received me.
In 2014, we saw a deepening of people-to-people ties between our two countries. And I am seeing this play out here in East China as more and more people go to the U.S. to study, do business or travel. I also want to extend my sincere welcome.
As I was born in the year of the ram, I am especially delighted to extend a Spring Festival message: Wishing you and your family a happy and prosperous year of the Yang.
