Shanghai Exhibition Center, one of the most representative architectures and one of the well-known exhibition venues in Shanghai, was completed in 1955, with the original name of the "Sino-Soviet Friendship Building".

The center is located at No. 1000, Middle Yan'an Road in Jing'an District, occupying a total area of 93,000 square meters.

Shanghai Exhibition Center was the seat of Hardoon Gardens, the private garden of the British Jews Hardoon. Later the couple died, and the garden was occupied by Japanese Army in the Pacific War. Afterwards, it was abandoned gradually.

In 1954, Shanghai Municipal People's Government started the construction of Sino-Soviet Friendship Building, which is the present Shanghai Exhibition Center, in the location of Hardoon Garden. Its name was changed for several times and it was officially named as Shanghai Exhibition Center in 1984.

The Center was designed in the Russian classical style of architecture, the same with the style of Beijing Exhibition Hall. The whole building is majestic and quite worth visiting.

Since its completion, Shanghai Exhibition Center has held a number of important exhibitions at home and abroad, and has been an important conference venue for Shanghai's National People's Congress, the government's Political Consultative Conference, and some celebrating receptions. It is playing a key role in the development of economics, politics, science and technology in Shanghai.
