Mingfu Building

Located in the busy downtown area, the elegant Huangpu Mingfu Library is the former site of China Science Society and Ming Fu Library. It is a first-level national library and consists of Mingfu, Huixin and Lele Building.

The main architecture, Mingfu Building was designed by Liu Dunzhen and built in 1929. It is a reinforced concrete structure in modern style.

 

Mingfu building once housed the China Science Society Ming Fu Library which was opened in 1931. As the China's first public library of science and technology, the library was launched by Hu Mingfu and Yang Xingfo, the first batch of students studying in the United States. It witnessed the history of the China Science Society.

The buildings of Mingfu Library

 

Built in 1928, Huixin Building is the former site of the general office of the China Science Society. In 1945 the China Association for Promoting Democracy was found here.

Lele Building  

 

Lele Building was donated by the Chinese American industrialist Mr. Albert Quan in 1993 and was named after his wife Lily Zhou (Zhou Lele).

 

老房子漫书香:闹市里的复古图书楼(中国科学社暨明复图书馆旧址)

 

明复图书馆,位于黄浦区陕西南路235号,为国家一级图书馆,由明复楼、会心楼及乐乐楼三栋建筑组成。主体建筑明复楼的前身为中国第一座公共科技图书馆——中国科学社明复图书馆。

 

明复楼由刘敦桢设计,建于1929年,钢筋混凝土结构,整体为现代派风格。1931年,中国科学社明复图书馆由当时中国第一批留美学生胡明复、杨杏佛等回国后发起建造。明复楼见证了中国科学社的历史。

 

会心楼,即原中国科学社总办事处旧址,建造于1928年,1945年12月中国民主促进会在此成立。

 

乐乐楼,由美籍华人关康才先生于1993年捐资建造,以其夫人名字命名。
