Situated in the Central Plains, Zhengzhou rests on Mount Song in the west, borders on the Yellow River in the north, and connects the Huang Huai Plains in the east and south. It is one of the oldest central cities in China, a hub of communications directly accessing 10 provinces, and a strategic place throughout the various dynasties.
The long history leaves Zhengzhou abundant cultural heritages. Within the municipal area, there are more than 1400 cultural relics, 26 of which are key sights under the state protection. Around Zhengzhou city proper, numerous ruins of ancient towns, cultures, tombs, buildings, passes and battlefields have been found; and the ancestor of the Chinese nation- the Yellow Emperor and many famous historical figures including LieZi, Zichan, Du Fu, Bai Juyi and Gao Gong were born in Zhengzhou.
