Jinan, the capital of Shandong Province, is located in the western part of the center of Shandong Province and at the juncture of the Beijing-Shanghai and Qingdao-Jinan railways. It is the center of politics, economy and culture of Shandong province and one of the famous historical and cultural cities designated by the State Council.
Jinan has a history of more than 2600 years and it is an essential birthplace of the civilization in China. Shun, a chieftain of the pristine tribe was born and lived around Jinan. Chengzi Cliff in eastern Jinan is the place where Longshan Civilization of the late Neolithic Age was found with the basalt as its symbol. At this site, about 200,000 square meters of China’s oldest city relics was discovered. When the Shire and County System was established by the first emperor of the Qin Dynasty, Jinan belonged to Jibei Shire. At the beginning of the Han Dynasty, Jinan Shire was founded and got its name.

Jinan is also the home to many celebrities such as BianQue, the founder of the Chinese traditional medicine science and LiQingzhao, the famous poetess. As a result, it comes to an agreement that “there are many celebrities in Jinan”.
As Jinan boasts a number of natural springs amid picturesque scenery, it is also known as the "City of Springs". The city tree of Jinan is the willow, and the city flower is the lotus.
