The Silk Road is the collective name given to a number of trade routes linking the Chinese and the West and it greatly promoted the friendly exchange and cooperation between Chinese and the courtiers in Asia and Europe.

This ancient route starts from Chang'an that is today’s Xi'an and reaches the Yellow River at Lanzhou and then follows along the "Gansu Corridor" and stretches along the edge of deserts and mountains.

China is the hometown of silk and among all the Chinese exports to the West, silk is the most representative, thus these trade routes were collectively called the Silk Road.

Today the Silk Road tells many mysterious stories of that time and displays thousands of cultural heritage and historical sites, which attract more and more visitors.
