Shanghai Television Festival: Hand on Love, Progress Together

  June 8th, the 14th Shanghai Television Festival, which is co-hosted by the State Administration of Radio, Film & TV and the Shanghai Municipal Government, is declared open in the Shanghai New Exhibition Center. This festival will be held June the 9th to13th. Main events of the festival include the Magnolia Award, International TV market, New Media and Broadcasting Equipment Market, and Magnolia forum According to the festival organizing committee. Major organizers such as Li Ruigang, the deputy CEO of the festival and president of SMG; Gao Yunfei, the chief leader of the opening events and vice president of SMG and Tang Lijun, deputy Chief Executive Secretary-general and department director for large-scale events of SMG all attended the press conference.

  After the 5.12 Wenchuan earthquake, media such as CCTV, Sichuan TV and Shanghai Dragon TV, all made live broadcasts in the first place and hold relief benefit performance. They have played an very important role in spreading information and uniting people together. Compared with former festivals, the 14th Shanghai Television Festival focus more on the social responsibilities of the media. The opening ceremony event on June the 9th will be replaced by an opening forum: We Are There, The Responsibility of the Media. This forum will be made up of five keynote speeches, audience interaction and poem recitation by reporters. Five correspondents who have been to the quake-afflicted areas to interview and report will share their experiences and thoughts. They are Li Xiaomeng from CCTV, Wang Yong from SMG, E Wensong from Sichuan TV, Xu Qian from Shaanxi TV and Liu Shan from Gansu TV. They will also discuss the holy task the media shoulders when faced with disasters, challenges and responsibilities from different point of view.

  This year also marks the 50th anniversary of Chinese TV, to celebrate it, the 14th Shanghai TV Festival in 2008 will make innovations based on the original four main events. Project Pitch & Catch, New Media Interactions will further extend the function and influence of the festival, promote the market and draw more audience to participate. Besides these events, there are also events like Animation Project Pitching, Docu-China Master Class, Shanghai University Students TV festival and etc.

  The theme of this TV festival is "The power of television, the Responsibility of Media". By the end of June 8th ,this festival has already got 5000 registered guests including 619 registered journalists.

  According to the introduction, there are more than 60 TV programs competing for the Magnolia Award. They are from 337 TV companies and channels, both domestic and abroad.

  As the most popular event in the festival, the International TV and Film Market kept its international trend of standard market. The ratio of foreign participants to the whole is kept at about 40 percent. This year many companies have been invited such as CCTV, SMG, Hai Run TV , East Shanghai and Jin Dun TV group from domestic market and also Warner Bros. International Television, Walter Disney, Japan Local Broadcasters Association, Association, Singapore New Media, European Broadcasters Association, Korea Local Broadcasters and India ZEE, etc.
