Date: June 13-21, 2009

Shanghai International Film Festival, originated in 1993, is hosted by the State Administration of Radio, Film & Television and Shanghai Municipal Government; and organized by Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture, Radio, Film & TV and Shanghai Media & Entertainment Group. Upon successful organization of the first two editions, the festival was soon accredited by FIAPF as one of the competitive feature film festivals.

With successful 11 editions in the past 16 years and backed up by fast growing Chinese movies and a globalized film industry worldwide in general, Shanghai International Film Festival has consolidated on its own developing strategy, focusing on a clear and integral structure of the four major sections - Film Competitions, SIFF Mart, Film Forum and International Panorama. The four major sections strongly advocate movie art itself to encourage diversified artistic features in film making with different cultural backgrounds, which consequently orients the festival onto the path, with perspective and openness as an international film festival supposed to have, to nurture young talents for consistency of a healthy industry. Meanwhile, Shanghai International Film Festival exerts no efforts to build up platform with professional services to boost industry development and bridge film projects and capitals. As one of the most important events of the festival, each year's red carpets of opening and closing ceremonies are glamorous with arrivals of numerous film celebrities from around the world.

Prestigious international Jury members, super movie stars, competitive movies for awards, high-level talks on forums among film masters and excellent screening movies in Panorama have already made each June in Shanghai a distinguished gathering and cultural banquet for worldwide filmmakers and media professionals home and abroad. Each year, Shanghai International Film Festival receives over 1000 press applications to report festival events. With a stable over 300,000 of movie goers each year, the number of public participation keeps ranking high as compared to most international film festivals.
