Bar's Blog

What's the best way to get rid of customers after an evening's entertainment?

We love the UK-style Last Orders bell warning everyone to get the last drinks in, followed by another ring 15 minutes later meaning Time's Up So Get Out. (Heavy-handed bouncers will soon be on their way)

We don't mind the music off / lights on combo, or even staff coming round sponging down nearby empty tables and stacking chairs. The guilt factor makes us get our skates on.

We don't like being greeted with a curt: "We're closing soon" on arrival at 10pm, when the bar in question was in fact shutting at 11pm, then presented with the bill twenty minutes later. Perish the thought we might try to get another round in in the next half hour and there would be two more glasses to stick in the dishwasher.

Really we're just being snide because we were enjoying ourselves at Berlucchi's Bar and didn't want to leave so early (or gam bei our not-cheap wine). Service aside, it's genuinely classy and up market without being stuffy or pretentious, and the location can't be faulted as the bar is on the third floor of the lovely Villa Oro.
