An exhibition to commemorate the 121st anniversary of the birth of Mao Zedong on December 26, 2014 is slated for opening in Mao’s former residence Jiaxiuli on No. 120, Maoming Road, Shanghai.
The exhibition, called “Great Man Mao Zedong”, puts on display 50 little-known photos including Mao playing pingpong, swimming in Yangtze River, and photos with folks and children, showing a more approachable figure of the founding father of the People's Republic of China.
Mao stayed in Jiaxiuli, where he lived for the longest time in Shanghai, during the ninth time he came to work here in 1924. There Mao Zedong and Yang Kaihui jointly carried out revolutionary activities and shared family happiness with his two sons- Anying and Anqing.
Mao was born in 1893 in Shaoshan Village in central China's Hunan Province. He died in 1976 at the age of 83. As one of the founders of the PRC, Mao is one of the most influential figures in China's modern history.(Eastday/Jiang Wenran)
