The traditional sweet green rice balls ("Qing-Tuan" in Chinese) become hot sellers in the time-honored snack shops in downtown Shanghai as the Chinese Qingming Festival or Tomb-sweeping Day (Apr. 5 this year) is drawing near.
The average daily sales of Qing-Tuan reach about 50,000 these days and may exceed 100,000 on weekends at "Wang-Jia-Sha", a long-established snack shop on Nanjing Road (West). It is worth mentioning that this year citizens are expected to enjoy the new products of folium artemisiae argyi flavor - kneading crushed Ay Tsao leaves into dough for more refreshing fragrance. It is said that the prices of the sweet green rice balls of all flavors remain the same despite slight rise of the material cost.
Qingming Festival is the 108th day after Winter Solstice. It falls on April 4, 5 or 6.
