Gatipon, born in 1966, played volleyball for Thailand men's national team for 17 years and then served as the chief coach of Thailand women's national team. He is hailed as Godfather of Thailand volleyball. In 2009, Gatipon-led Thailand team first won the Asian women's volleyball champion after beating Cai Bin-led Chinese team.
