Shanghai, Dec 4 – Shanghai citizens were surprised to see the first winter snow yesterday evening, which started in the suburban Chongming area. It was also the earliest snowfall in the past five years.

The city's first snow usually appears at the end of December or the beginning of January, said Kong Chunyan, Chief Service Officer with Shanghai Meteorologic Bureau. And last winter Shanghai didn't see snowfall until February 9 this year.

Starting from today, the weather will be fine in the coming three days. And affected by the approach of supplementary cold front and radiation cooling, the city will remain freezing with the low temperature of 1-2 degrees Celsius in downtown areas and zero degrees Celsius in the suburbs, said the forecaster.
