2015年1月1日一早就有不少市民自发来到外滩陈毅广场，献上鲜花，悼念踩踏事件遇难者。其中有遇难者的同学、亲戚、也有当晚曾一起来迎接新年的朋友。2014 年12月31日23时35分许，上海市黄浦区外滩在群众自发进行的迎新年活动中发生拥挤踩踏事件。截至1月2日11时，已造成36人死亡，49人受伤。
