The Shanghai Labor and Social Security Bureau said yesterday that 12,000 local families had bought insurance for their domestic helpers since the special insurance went on sale in the city on July 1. More than 67 percent of the policies were bought through local post offices. So far payouts have been made in six cases, mostly slight injuries like bruises.
