| Kurkova tops a world meet
Katerina Kurkova of the Czech Republic built herself a cushion for the final with near perfect shooting and won the women's air rifle world championship title in Lahti, Finland, on Monday.After firing 399 points out of 400 going into the final, Kurkova, 19, finished with a total of 502.1 points to beat Du Li of China (500.9 points) and Sonja Pfeilschifter of Germany (500.3). In the initial 40 shots, Du Li and Pfeilschifter recorded 398 points, as did Emily Caruso of the United States. She finished fourth on 500.3 points, after losing a shoot-off to Pfeilschifter, who had 10.4 points against 10.3 for Caruso.The Chinese trio of Du Li (398 points), Gao Jing and Zhao Yinghui, both 396, set a world record of 1,190 points in the team event. Among the men, China won the 50-meter pistol team event with Russia second and the Ukraine third.
