City sets the largest quota of license plates

A record 3,000 license plates are allowed to be auctioned this month since Shanghai conducts the license plate quota policy, 200 more than last month, eastday.com reported today.

Individuals and private companies in the city are required to bid for a license plate before buying a car as a result of the city government's policy to limit the number of new privately owned cars.

The bidding prices of license plates keep trending upward this year, with the average bidding prices topping 20,000 yuan (US$2,400) last month.

The growing number of quotas aims to satisfy the growing market demand, said an industry analyst. The number of quotas will have a moderate increase later as more car buyers expected in the city, the analyst said.

Potential car buyers shouldn't hurriedly bid for the car plates at higher prices, the analyst warned.

The bidding this month will be held at the Anting second hand car market on July 20 and the car buyers can get the bidding cards since July 15.
