Jin Mao Tower

The Bund
A symbol of Shanghai and an epitome of Shanghai's modern history. On one side of the broad highway stand 52 blocks of tall, magnificent buildings with different architectural styles, which can be called a museum of modern world architecture. On the other side is the wide embankment, where crowds of visitors come to enjoy the beautiful scenery on the Huangpu--mother river of Shanghai. When night falls, colorful lights illuminate the whole Bund area and turn it into a scene of the "wonderland".

The most bustling shopping center in Shanghai and enjoying the reputation of "China's No.1 Street". Business hours are from 10 am to 10 pm. Brightly lit Nanjing Road is a wonderful view at night in a sea of lights. From September 1999, Nanjing Road becomes a pedestrians' walking street.

Oriental Pearl TV Tower
468m high and overlooking the magnificent international-style buildings on the other side of the river, it is the highest in Asia and the third highest in the world. The tower consists of 15 spheres of different sizes at different levels, creating an aristic conception of "large and small pearls dropping onto a jade plate". At night, conlourful lights glisten and dazzle the eyes.

Nanpu Bridge and Yangpu Bridge
Linking the western Shanghai with Pudong New Area both are double-tower and double-cabe drawn bridges with laminated beams. Nanpu Bridge is 8,346m long with a span of 423m in the main bridge, ranking the fourth in the world. Yangpu Bridge is 7,658m long, with the largest span in cable drawn bridges in the world. There are sidewalks on both bridges and elevators are provided for visitors to go up the bridge for sightseeing.

Pudong New Area
The new area was established in April 1990. It has a total area of 523 sq.km. It consists of 4 smaller key areas: the Lujiazui Finance and Trade Zone, the Jinqiao Export Processing Zone, the Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone, and the Zhangjiang High Tech Park. Pudong New Area has Become a new hot spot for investment in China.

People's Square and Shanghai Museum
The People's Square is the political and cultural centre of Shanghai. Here are the Shanghai Museum, the Municipal Hall, the underground shopping arcade, the underground parking ground and Shanghai Grand Theatre. The museum is a comprehensive museum of art, being one of the 4 largest museums in the country. It has a collection of 12,300 pieces in 21 categories of valuable cultural relics. The shape of the building is like a giant bronze tripod, looking graceful and solemn. There are modern facilities in the museum, such as a multifunction lecture hall, sound guiding, etc.

Shanghai Grand Theatre
Located in the northwest of the People's Square, occupying an area of 11,528 sq.m. with a total floor space of 70,000 sq.m., consists of 3 theatres for performing opera, ballet, symphony, chamber music, stage play and dance drama. It is equipped with an automatic mechanical stage, the largest and most advanced in Asia. Shanghai Grand Theatre has become a modern cultural symbolic architecture in Shanghai.

Shanghai Stadium
Shanghai stadium has a total floor space of 170,000 sq.m. The diameter of the stadium is 273m. In the center of the stadium is a lawn football ground of international standard. Around the football ground is a 400m track and areas for different kinds of field and track sports. The stadium is one of the symbolic architectures in Shanghai.

Shanghai Historical Museum
It has collected about 20,000 pieces of historical relics with special local feature of Shanghai. It fully and systematically describes the history of Shanghai's development since the Opium War in 1840.

Shanghai Library
With a history of 44 years,Shanghai Library was moved at the end of 1996 to Huaihai Road at the crossroad of Gaoan Road. The new library occupies an area of 3.1 hectares with a floor space of 83,000 sq.m.. The exterior is of multiple step style. It keeps 13 million copies of books and magazines. It is the second largest and the first electronically equipped library in China with a multifunctional lecture hall, exhibition halls, a theatre with simultaneous interpretation and other advanced facilities.

Yuyuan Garden
A classical garden south of the Yangtse with a history of over 400 years. Halls, chambers, towers and pavilions, rockeries and flowing streams all express the essence of the Ming and Qing Dynasty garden architecture of the South. There are more than 40 scenic spots in the garden ingeniously partitoned, offering visitors a different scene at every step.

Jade Buddha Temple
In 1882 Monk Huigen brought back from Buddha statues and built a temple to enshrine them. The statues are the ingenious works of the Buddhist world. Buddhist ceremonies are conducted here all the time. As a famous Buddhist temple it is wellknown both at home and abroad.

Longhua Temple
An ancient temple with the longest history and largest scale in Shanghai built in the year 242. It keeps the original feature of the Song Dynasty Zan Sect Jialan seven-hall design. In the temple are kept Buddhist scripture, gold seals and Buddhist statues of the Tang, Five, Ming and Qing Dynasties. At night on every New Year eve the ceremony of "Striking the Longhua Evening Bel" is conducted here and is wellknown in the country and abroad.

Shanghai Folk Collection Exhibition Hall
It has a collection of over 200 kinds. It is known as "half of China's collections, which are featured for their "novelty", "uniqueness", "exquisiteness" and "resourcefulness".

Catholic Cathedral in Xujiahui
The largest Catholic church now existing in Shanghai and the main cathedral in Shanghai's Catholic parish. It is formally named the "Great Cathedral of the Holy Mother". The architecture has a French Gothic style.

Catholic Pilgrimmage Shrine on Sheshan Hill
Known as from the '40s as a Catholic pilgrimmage shrine, being the first in the Far East and also known as the major shrine in the country. It was designed with a Chinese traditional method of integrating the artistic characteristics of the East with the West, thus having high aesthetic value.

Mosque of Small Peach Garden
A mosque of West Asian Islam architecture. The Shanghai Muslim Association is found here. It plays an important role in propagating Islam culture and in the exchange of Chinese and foreign cultures and enjoys a high reputation in the country and abroad.

Mosque of Songjiang County
The oldest Islam mosque in Shanghai and also one of the best preserved Islam architectures in the country. The layout retains the Yuan and Ming Dynasty Islam style of a combination of shrine and tomb. It is a symbol of the integration of Islamism with Chinese culture.

Sheshan National Holiday Resort
Located in the southwest suburb of Shanghai it is the only tourist area in Shanghai with natural hills and waters. Nature has endowed the area with beautiful landscape and manmade sights. There is also a number of historical sites of primitive culture known as the "Root of Shanghai" and many manmade tourist attractions.

Grand View Garden Tourist Area on Dianshan Lake
Located in Shanghai's western suburb and occupying an area of 106 hectares the tourist area is divided into the eastern and western sections: the western section consists of reproductions of a dozen ancient buildings in the Grand View Garden in the famous Chinese classic,"Dream of Red Mansions". The eastern section mainly consists of natural scenery and landscaping. In the tourist area there is also a Shanghai Folk Customs Cultural Village, a Youth Camping Ground, a Water Sports Ground and an International Golf County Club.

The Site of the Former Provisionary Government of the Korea Republic
The provisionary government of the Korean Republic stationed here from 1926 to 1932. On the third floor of the building is the exhibition room where on display is a brief history of the provisionary government working here.

Ohel Moshe Synagogue
Ohel Moshe Synagogue in Ward Road (today No.62, Changyang Road) was founded in 1927. It became the center of religious activities for the Jewish refugees during wartime.

Shanghai Lao Jie
Shanghai Lao Jie, located on Fangbang Road, Middle, in Nanshi District, is 825m long. The architecture and layout of the street from west to east display the historical and cultural evolution during a period from the Ming, Qing Dynasties to the Chinese Republic, featured by its traditional trade character, emphasizing on traditional folk custom culture, creating a Shanghai-style culture atmosphere. Shanghai Lao Jie has become a tourist attraction for its unique style of business culture in Shanghai.

Ceramics Center
An exhibition of ceramics from the "china town" Jingdezheng, in Jiangxi Province is being held.

Dream Garden
A sprawl of classical Chinese buildings on the bank of Dianshan Lake, the Grand View Garden was built 15 years ago in imitation of the fabled garden in "A Dream of Red Mansions," a popular 17th century Chinese classic. It is a maze of halls, pavilions, corridors, ponds and bridges.
