South Korea will place 7,400police in and around the competition sites to ensure security for the World University Games,security officials said here on Tuesday.
There are also combat-ready soldiers with undisclosed number deployed on mountains around the city.
In addition,no aircraft will be allowed to fly over the stadiums an hour before and 30minutes after the competition.The skies over the athletes'village are also off limits 24hours a day from August 14to September 3.
To enhance their information gathering abilities,the security staff established information-sharing channels with overseas agencies including the FSB of Russia.
"We set up the channels to pick up intelligence regarding the recent movements of terrorist organizations and to protect participants,including VIPs,from any possible danger,"said Kim Young-jin,a security team official.
A total of 12security-related organizations,including the police,military,fire fighting units and the National Intelligence Service,formed the security team on May 1to safeguard the Daegu Universiade,which opens on August 21through to 31.
