South Korea,which plays host to the 22nd World University Games,aims for a best-ever finish in the event on home turf.
"We will do our utmost to achieve a best-ever result in the Universiade this time in Daegu,"said Lee Jung-moo,who heads the South Korean delegation.
South Korea is to field a 379-member delegation,including 280athletes,the largest ever in its Universiade history.
The host squad have set a goal of winning 16-18golds and claiming second place in the overall gold medals table.They are expected to grab gold medals in taekwondo,archery and judo.
South Korea's previous best finish was fifth place with 10goldin Fukuoka in 1995.
Around 7,700participants from more than 170countries and regions,the largest in the history of Universiade,are expected to take part in the Olympic-style event,which runs August 21-31in Daegu.
