A total of 172countries and regions and over 7,000athletes and officials have registered to make the 22nd World University Games the biggest ever,said the Daegu organizers in a press release on Wednesday.

The Daegu Universiade will see 7,180athletes and officials dwelling in the 1,935-apartment Athletes'Village,which creates anew participant record after Beijing Universiade received a then-record 6,757from 164countries and regions two years ago.

To realizing its original goal of 170countries and regions,the Daegu Universiade organizing committee (DUOC)had made every effort to contact as many of them as possible through various means,even including its diplomatic channels.

The Daegu Games also attract unprecedented media attention as 3,328journalists,including 315foreign reporters from 36countriesand regions,have registered to cover the events.The figure is far more than the 2,500the organizing committee expected.
