Chinese Collects Four Golds at Universiade 28/8/2003

After the disappointment in the world championships, the Chinese national diving team have claimed the first two golds of the the 22nd World University Games in Daegu, South Korea.

World champion Wu Minxia clinched the first diving gold for China as she triumphed in the women's one-meter springboard event.

Peng Bo and Wang Kenan cooperated to seal a two-gold victory when they eased into first place in the men's three-meter synchronized.

The Chinese team, however, missed golds in both competitions at the Barcelona World Championships which ended last month.

In the swimming pool, Chinese swimmers have also seized two golds.

Luo Xuejuan is the gold medalist of women's 50-meter breaststroke. She broke the Universiade's record in the heat competition, but a waist injury hindered her from setting a new record in the final.

Kunpeng won the gold medal in men's 200-meter backstroke, and also broke the record of the university sports games.
