Wang Pull off Sixth Diving Gold for China at Universiade 28/8/2003

Chinese divers continued their gold sweep at the World University Games as Wang Tianling grabbed the men's 3m springboard title on Wednesday.

World bronze medalist Wang, making a golden redemption to his 1-meter loss to teammate Wang Feng, scored 716.55 points to take the sixth diving gold for China while his fellow countryman Wang Kenan, the reigning Universiade men's 3-meter synchronized champion, came second in 709.53.

Japanese Terauchi Ken finished third in 670.89.

Tianling, heading the field into the final, changed lead with Kenan in the first four rounds before he took a 10-point advantage in the fifth with a dynamic dive of 307C.

He sealed the victory in the last round despite Wang Kenan's near-perfect final dive.

Tianling, however, seemed unsatisfied with his performance.

"I was a little bit shaky today," said the 26-year-old. "I did not bring my potential to a good display as my form is rather low now. You can see flaws in my dives."

Tianling spread a little late in his entry in his last dive, which earned him 77.70 points, the second low of all his marks.
