'2003 Shanghai International Industry Fair (SIF for abbreviation) will be held during Nov.6-11. According to yesterday’s SIF preparation conference, SIF 2003 will highlight the modern manufacturing industry, and enhance the proportion of professional exhibitors and visitors from home and abroad.

SIF 2003 will have an exhibition area of 62500 sqm, and be held in 5 professional halls featuring Electronic Information, Industrial Equipment, Biological Engineering & Pharmaceuticals, Scientific & Technological Innovation with 2500 booths. With the purpose to highlight Internationalization, Chinese Brand and the Manufacturing Industry, exhibitors from overseas will increase from 506 to 625, with proportion from 20% to 25%. Meanwhile exhibitors out of Shanghai region will exceed local exhibitors for the first time, with the former 960 and the latter 915. In addition, SIF will invite world famous multinationals and home elite enterprises to participate. Until July, 16th, 1852 booths had been reserved, accounting for 70% of all the booths.

During the conference, Vice Mayor of Shanghai Municipal Government, Chairman of SIF Organizing Committee, Zhou Yupeng put forward 6 requirements: First, Highlight the theme of Informatization & Industrialization, and manufacturing industry. Second, Invite more enterprises to participate, and items of exhibition should qualify SIF at world level. Third, Innovate the exhibition with vigor and technological content. Fourth, Enhance the quality of the evaluation of exhibited items and the preparation for forums, lectures and seminars. Fifth, Enhance the informatization and service level of SIF. Last but not least, All the sectors of Shanghai Municipal Government should sponsor SIF as what they did in the bidding for World Expo 2010.

Vice Mayor of Shanghai Municipal Government, Vice Chairman of SIF Organizing Committee, Yan Junqi and Tang Dengjie also advanced their constructive instructions during the conference.
