China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) Friday issued an emergency notice, ordering all of its companies to check production safety in gas fields.

The checks will include both well controlling equipment and programs to cope with emergencies. The companies will inform and evacuate nearby residents timely and efficiently if there is emergency, a CNPC spokesman said.

CNPC will suspend production of any of its companies that falls short of efficient safety measures, the spokesman said.

The notice was issued after a gas field blowout at Tuesday night, when natural gas and sulfurated hydrogen blew out from a gas field operated by CNPC, killing at least 191 people in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality.
