Identification of gas blowout victims underway

The identification has begun of the bodies of people killed after a gas well blew out last Tuesday night in southwestern China's Chongqing municipality.

By Sunday, 110 bodies from 58 families had been confirmed, said Du Lianjian, director of the civil affairs bureau in the Kaixian county where the accident took place, on Monday morning.

Eight teams in charge of body transportation, cleaning, preservation, photography, registration, numbering, confirmation and claims have been organized under Wei Changshu, director of the Chongqing municipal administration of civil affairs at the local funeral home, Du said.

All the bodies identified are grouped in accordance with

families and 90 work teams have been formed to offer support for relatives.

So far, 233 people have been pronounced dead.
