The government of the Kaixian County in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality has begun organizing gas blowout victims to return home,sources said here Sunday.

The local government worked out a detailed plan Saturday night to send back the victims and started the operation early Sunday morning.

Tests conducted by environment protection and health experts indicated that most parts of the affected area had reached standards for human life.

But residents living in the central area can return only after all the sterilizing work completes on Dec.29.

At the county town,over 600rescuing staff and 125trucks began the delivery early Sunday.

The tragedy took place at a natural gas field in Kaixian at 10:00p.m.Tuesday when a well burst suddenly and released a high concentration of natural gas and sulfurated hydrogen.The natural gas field is 337km to the northeast of Chongqing.

A total of 64,000residents had been removed out of the accident site.An operation to cap the gas well completed successfully at 11:00a.m.Saturday.
